    Mauritian Spice Shop

Published: Aug 4, 2023 · Modified: Feb 1, 2024 by Eliette Stall · This post may contain affiliate links ·

If you’ve been wondering where to buy Mauritian Curry Powder (also called Mauritian masala) in the US, come and browse our high-quality spices, and make your own mix!

Or, perhaps you’re craving some vindaye, achard legumes, or want to make a batch of mazavaroo? You’re in the right place to get started!

When I first moved to the US, I was having trouble finding some spices to properly replicate my favorite Mauritian dishes or make proper Mauritian curry powder. Occasionally, I would buy them at the local Indian store but the quality would be lacking, the product is sometimes old or even expired.

Homemade Achard Masala Paste (for Achard and Vindaye)

I’m very pleased to bring to you select spices to prepare your own Authentic Mauritian Curry Powder or Archard Masala Paste. I work closely with a handful of companies to bring you small-batch & high-quality spices to prepare and enliven your beloved Mauritian recipes.

Where to buy Mauritian curry powder

    Poisson Salé Shop Banner

Please visit my US-based online ti la boutik (little shop) called Poisson Salé where you’ll find many spices used in Mauritian cuisine, including cumin (ti l’ani), coriander seeds (coriande) and even curry leaf powder (la poudre cari poulé).

If you would prefer, you can buy the spices to make Mauritian curry powder right here but you’ll have a smoother user experience if you head to the shop.

You can also find some of these spices directly from our preferred vendors.

    Mauritian Spices Translation

I’ve put together a handy list of common Mauritian spices, vegetables, fruits and other Mauritian ingredients in Créole, English, French and some Hindi and Hakka.

Have you been wondering what to call “gros anis” or “arouille” in English (it’s taro!), or perhaps you’re in a store and you see cumin and wondering what it’s called in Créole? Another one that can be tricky is how to call ajwain (carom) in French.

You can discover all that on our handy dandy Mauritian Ingredient Translations page.

I also have authentic Mauritian recipes for you to try, including our typical Mauritian Chicken Biryani!

Plate of chicken biryani (briani) with tomato chutney, cucumber salad, and topped with fried red onion. Spoon on the right of the plate. A small bowl of green chili paste with a teaspoon on the upper left side of the plate.
